Some of the clubs make it customary for practitioners who are white belts to only wear a white Gi, but once the blue is obtained, they are free to wear any color of the Gi .

Any competition has made out their own qualifications for the Jiu Jitsu Gi. Cotton or any similar fabric in a good condition should be the one that must be used for a Jiu Jitsu Gi . The material should not prevent the competitor because of the unnecessary thickness and durability of the material. The jacket of Jiu Jitsu Gi should be of sufficient length down to the thighs, sleeves must reach the wrist with arms extended in front of the body . When competing internationally, the International Federation have the standard measurements for the sleeve of Jiu Jitsu Gi.

With a dual knot to keep the kimono closed, the belt from the Jiu Jitsu Gi should go accordingly with the practitioner’s rank. Jiu Jitsu Gi are honored that athletes are not allowed to compete in torn kimonos, sleeves or pants . The provision of the t-shirts for the males underneath the kimono should also go in accordance with the guidelines .
